His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday reiterated the centrality of the Palestinian issue, stressing that the international community should shoulder its responsibility and bring momentum back to the peace process despite the current developments in the region.
His Majesty also affirmed Jordan’s support to the Palestinians in their quest to regain their rights and establish an independent state on their national soil in line with the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions.
He also highlighted the need to enhance Palestinian unity to achieve this objective.
The two leaders also discussed steps that should be taken to confront Israeli policies that hamper peace efforts and the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
On Syria, the King and Abbas stressed the need to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis that spare the Syrian people more suffering and bloodshed.
Palestinian Abbas expressed appreciation of Jordan’s support to the Palestinians to regain their rights and set up their independent state.
He also stressed keenness of the Palestinian National Authority to continue coordination with Jordan on issues of common interest, mainly the peace process.
